Three Tech Debates. One Brutal Comment Section. | The 1k Sub Special

Show notes
On this special episode of Admin Access, Dominic and Evans mark the milestone of reaching 1,000 subscribers by reacting to audience comments, sparking honest debates on some of tech’s biggest questions. The hosts start with AI's quiet takeover of creative work, from AI-generated "slop" flooding social feeds to AI music good enough to fool a cab driver mid-ride. But the real insight isn't doom, it's a harder truth about human behavior: production quality will only keep improving, and the values we claim to hold around craftsmanship rarely match what we actually consume. From there, the pair revisit an old take that hasn't aged well, Dominic's early skepticism about Ferrari's EV strategy, and get called out by a sharp, car-literate audience member who makes the case that Ferrari's anti-EV stance is actually the most "Ferrari" move the brand could make, refusing to build what everyone else is building. The episode closes on the show's favorite recurring argument: are prediction markets just gambling with better branding? Using real examples, from a politician betting against his own confirmed appearance at the State of the Union to everyday risk decisions like staying home during unrest, Dominic and Evans dig into where speculation ends and gambling begins. Evans draws the line at manufactured risk versus risk that already exists, and who you're actually betting against, a bookie's fixed odds versus an opposing opinion on an exchange. Dominic pushes back with his own framework built on time horizon and participation, arguing that dopamine-driven, low-effort bets sit closer to gambling than long-term, high-participation ones like building a business. Neither fully convinces the other, but that's exactly the point.
